By Black British Creative

Tuesday, August 14, 2018.

The Black British Female Author takes place at the iconic Black Cultural Archives,  in Brixton, London, on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. It is an event that celebrates the stories of Black women in the UK. The event, which starts at 6.30 pm, will feature Yomi and Elizabeth, authors of Slay in Your Lane; Jay and Trina, authors of Kink; and Chimmy, author of Little Pink Book. There will be a panel discussion where the writers will talk about their books and do a short reading. Copies of the books will be sold at the event.

Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinené

Dubbed, the Black Girl’s Bible, Slay in Your Lane explores the ways in which being black and female affects us in areas from education, to work, to dating, to representation, money and health. It offers advice and encouragement on how to navigate them. It is filled with stories from Elizabeth and Yomi’s own lives, and from interviews with dozens of the most successful Black women in Britain.

Yomi Adegoke is an award-nominated journalist and senior writer at The Pool. She writes about race, feminism, popular culture and how they intersect, as well as class and politics. In 2013 she founded Birthday Magazine, a publication aimed at black teenage girls.

Elizabeth Uviebinené is a Marketing Manager at a leading global brand. She specialises in creating marketing campaigns that are both culturally progressive and commercially impactful.

Jay Lopez and Tri Charles

Bloggers, Jay Lopez and Trina Charles released their book, Kink in 2016 to empower Black women. It is composed of personal mantras, powerful and uplifting poetry with sultry, vulnerable yet striking imagery of black females whom possess skin tones, hair styles, ages and hair textures that rarely shine in the media.

Jay and Tri run Curlture, which is an online empowerment platform which is purposed to empower Black women. The platform, which initially focused on natural hair care, now covers topics such as black beauty, natural hair, supporting black-owned businesses and artists, popular culture topics. Established in 2014, and known for their candid opinions, the duo have amassed over 48,000 supporters online from around the globe and have been featured on BET, Channel 4, BBC Radio 1Xtra, and more.

Chimmy Lawson

Chimmy Lawson has recently published her second book, Little Pink Book. It is a collection of captions for the sassy Instagram user. Similar to a groupchat for your instapics, Little Pink Book was designed to cut the time spent thinking up a sassy enough caption in half. Whether you want to stunt on your ex or throw a little shade, Chimmy Lawson's Little Pink Book is the modern reference guide you'll wish you always had.

Chimmy has been blessed with a successful career in fashion to a growing one in education. She is a Content Creator who works on imaginative and modern communication for various brands.

Organisers say this will be a great evening for you to listen to the stories of these fabulous women and their journey to becoming a published author.

Please note that there will be photography and filming at this event.
